- Supermarkets: The big supermarkets are Coop and Migros. They are closed on Sundays, with the exception of those at train stations.
- Electricity: Switzerland uses plugs type J. You might need an adapter.
- Currency: 1 Swiss Franc (CHF) is approximately 1.08 euros.
Lunch around the university in Basel
There are a lot of restaurants in the city center (5-10min walk).
Here are some ideas for having lunch on a small budget (mostly take away), and their walking distance from university.

- Sapori del Sud: Famous pastrami sandwiches, 2min.
- Ässbar: Sandwiches and pasteries from the day before, 2min.

If you have take away, some nice spots to sit outside are the botanical garden (2min), Petersplatz (2min), the Rhine promenade (7min) or Pfalz behind the Münster (14min).

Leisure activities around Basel
- Swimming in the Rhine: Very common activity. Only do it if you can swim and after you've read this. Never go alone.
- Museums: Fondation Beyeler (current exhibition: Pierre Huyghe), Kunstmuseum (current exhibition: Cao Fei), and many more.
- Hikes: Dornach-Arlesheim to Gempenturm and back (10.6km, see here), from Grellingen via Chastelbach to Kaltbrunnental and back (8km, see here) .
- Ferry: The small ferries crossing the Rhine cost 2 CHF per person, and you need to pay in cash (or by twint).
Travel from Basel to Neuchâtel
There is a direct train from Basel to Neuchâtel every hour. For the timetable, see SBB. Tickets can be bought online or directly at the train station.
Lunch around the University in Neuchâtel
The talks are in UniMail, rue Emile-Argand and a bit outside of the city center.
There is a vegan cafeteria in the building - Caution! No credit card, only cash or Twint!
There is also a fridge with an app that you can install and use.
